Government "quietly" targets a 20% cut in new EHCP plans, according to information in today's Guardian.

It's part of an deal signed with a company called Newton Europe to develop a programme called Delivering Better Value in SEND (DBV) involving 55 councils in England.

Newton Europe describe themselves as a "consultancy company" (and its board of directors show that their experience comes from retail and financial sectors).

Publically, the government says it is increasing fundng and support for special needs - which is now shown to be an utter lie.

Absolute scandal that needs to be known. Especially at a time when we all know the growth in mental health issues among children.

This is the same as what the #Tories do to the benefits system: pay private contractors to supposedly reduce need by victimising, gaslighting and ultimately denying vulnerable people the assistance to which they are entitled.

It is cruel, arbitrary, illegal and frankly, downright evil.

A recent highlight has been some incredibly interesting training on Oppositional Defiance Disorder by Finton O’Regan. I took home a lot about how to communicate better, how to foster choice and autonomy, how to help reduce anxiety and provide a safe place with both structure and flexibility. It’s given me a place to start and to reflect on.

I’ve had some brilliant training in Makaton this last two weeks. The teacher was great. I feel like I’ve got a good base to build off now to help the young people in my class communicate. Now to keep it fresh in my mind. I’m so glad I’ve finally had the opportunity, social communication is so key to everything we do.

Nice to see @SpecialNeedsJungle more active on here. Their website is brilliantly informative on all things related to SEN law and practice in the UK - it was a massive help to me when we were trying to get my youngest a special school place and being bogged down in local authority bureaucracy and bullshit. Well worth a follow for parents of children with SEN/disabilities or if you're in any other way interested.
