bad leave me grumpy

I celebrate
A risen God and rabbit
Bearing chocolate

rabbits dance
through airport queues
relief unmasked

elsewhere lie bodies
bagged in national flags
and secret stats

as freedom's fake
takes flight and hell is loosed
another year of night

returns, unasked

her hands rolling sweet pastries
the oven is cold

on the windowsill
wooden calendar blocks turn
time to dust

the postman
fills the porch with envelopes
a clock chimes

and stops
