Talk about a random sense memory: my first computer was an Apple II clone that had a "side board" with a Z-80 processor on it so I could run CP/M and WordStar. When you'd execute the keystroke combo to switch on the Z-80 board, it would come alive with a deep and protracted electric *SNAAAP* noise from inside the plastic case. I've forgotten a lot of things in the 40 years since then, but somehow I've never forgotten that one distinctive and satisfying noise.

I had my window open today and someone in a nearby apartment was doing laundry, so I could smell detergent and fabric softener. I had a sense memory from pre-pandemic times of being held by someone wearing freshly cleaned clothes and the sensation of sliding between a lover's sheets that smell of just being laundered.
It's the weird, little things I unexpectedly miss.
