(UK) smells pretty disgusting tonight. Maybe farmers treating fields with chicken manure or something? It’s gross, but it’s too warm to sleep with windows closed

My sense of smell (& taste) has definitely lessened over past couple of years (covid-related??) Eg Smell of nice tea, garden flowers, cologne, all affected. So I’m relieved to see these bushes flowering in these early May days, & catch a whiff of the intoxicating scent of lilac and broom

TIL New Mexico has an official State Question (it's "Red or green?"), which refers to one's preference in chile peppers. Now there's an effort to designate the scent of roasting chiles as the official State Aroma, apparently the first U.S. state to establish such a thing.

If this catches on more widely, we could be seeing (smelling?) other states touting their own unique pungent essences ... and the mind reels.

Interested me since apparently I am one of those whose sense of smell disappeared.

"When the researchers looked at the number of sensory nerve cells involved in smell, they found that those who suffered long-term loss of smell had notably fewer, possibly because the delicate tissue of the nasal lining had been damaged by the T-cell-driven inflammation."

"Millions of people who lost their after contracting Covid may have an ongoing, abnormal immune response that destroys cells in the nose, researchers say."
