@PeteLittle1970 I've historically been over-careful with food to avoid that. I've probably done plenty of dumping food that still might have been OK because I couldn't smell it to be sure. plus plus make for a bad mix in the kitchen.

Trying new food and drinks can be pretty intimidating for me because of my sensory processing issues. Textures in particular are a big thing 😬

I have . I consulted a therapist last year (at the age of 52) thinking I might be autistic. Based on our sessions he said he wasn't sure about that, but was 100% positive I have SPD.

Is there any law or governing agency in any major country that requires web pages to meet basic accessibility standards? I'm sick to death of websites that I can't read because of motion I can't turn off or scroll past.

If there is such a law, please tell me how I can report content that doesn't meet those standards.

Ellie’s new leash is done and shipped today. I’m so excited. This should get caught in my walker wheels much less! Plus, I prefer the 5/8” width with my sensory issues instead of the 3/4” width of our current leash.

it turns out it's the maintanence ppl working on the apt next door. they still are and it's been 12 days now and they're using saws and vacuums. i'm trying to get jobs with phone interviews, and i have really intense and can't block out these tones even with ear plugs and headphones

they probably assume everyone is at work, but some of us are trying to be unemployed at home in the middle of the day thank you very much

I ordered the guide handle for Ellie’s harness. I I’m not confident I will describe the pattern on it very well. It probably won’t come for another month. I chose this one in particular because unlike others, it is approved by a guide dog instructor for both functionality and also comfort for the dog. I’m not sure yet if I will need to buy a fleece cover for the handle due to my sensory processing issues or not. I’ll just have to see when I get the handle.

I’m so tired of the constant influx of expenses related to my disabilities. Need specific earplugs due to my . Constantly needing new stuff for my in training. Needing a guide handle for my current service dog. Having massive amounts of constant dental pain and being unable to afford to do anything about it. Disability payments don’t cover shit.

@faylen Even animations that don't flash mess with me. If there is movement on the screen, anywhere, for any reason, I will have trouble reading. Embedded, auto-playing ads? Forget it.

Honestly cannot wait to order Loop ear plugs next Friday. So many sounds drive me nuts! I am so sensitive to sound. I hate that I have to wait another week plus delivery time, but can’t do anything about that. Also, I have been having a lot more issues with neighbours yelling lately, so that just makes things worse.

Update on trying SLS-free kids toothpaste for my sensory processing issues! So I HATE the taste of mint and the fact that toothpaste seems to have an unpleasant burning feeling when I use it. I couldn’t find any toothpaste that is SLS-free (said to be what causes the burning sensation for some people) and not mint taste, so I looked for a kids toothpaste. Found a bubblegum one. I used it and don’t feel burning at all, and the taste was mild and not unpleasant! Success!

Got a much needed new lip balm. It’s lavender and lemon scented. I’m v picky about textures and scents due to SPD, but the texture is nice, the scent is super nice and not overpowering. I also got my toothpaste, it’s a kids bubblegum kind bc I hate the taste of mint and couldn’t find any normal ones without it. Will update on how it worked out for me. Also got a lavender lip sleep mask and something to add to my skincare routine for my acne, but haven’t tried them yet.

Mail day was a little disappointing. Lucy’s new leash didn’t come. I’m just so tired of the awful texture of her current leash (thanks, Sensory Processing Disorder), and tired of the excess length getting caught in my walker wheels. I’m also still waiting for Ellie’s new service dog harness to come, but it did clear customs today, so hopefully just a few more days. I will make a new post about the stuff I did get today, because I’m excited about it.

I hate that my brain, when I'm having a feeling or an internal reaction while listening to another person, shuts down all the other channels--listening, seeing--to receive that impression or feel that feeling.

All the other data drops out. As if it never got recorded.

I might catch a key word here or there, or remember a fleeting instant of an impactful facial expression, but it's all broken apart spotty bits like that from there on forward. I often have to reconstruct how those disjointed pieces flow in a coherent statement or narrative later, based on contextual clues and the general gist of the conversation.

I miss so much precious, important-to-me information in my interactions with people I care about because of this phenomenon.

🤬😤

(TL;DR I hate that I can't have a feeling and continue listening to you at the same time.)

I just came across a couple of suggestions for sensory sensitive people in regards to toothpaste/brushing. It was suggested to use kids toothpaste to be able to find something without mint flavour (something I HATE), and to use an SLS free toothpaste because SLS causes contact irritation in some people. Not sure if SLS is part of the issue for me or not. Anyway, I just ordered a bubblegum flavoured SLS free kids toothpaste. I’m hoping that will help.
