#DAWs with built-in #sequencers & instruments like the ones you mention can work.
One can also go fully modular with #JACK & a sequencer program like #seq24 along with all the digital equivalents of usual #ModularSynths.
There's also this neat simulator for modular synths: https://vcvrack.com/
You can also use both approaches at once.
It's up to what appeals to you.
