It's not a CAT!
It is a Genet, and it lives in the lobby/dining area of @ndutusafarilodge on the Serengeti. Each evening while we were having dinner or relaxing in the lounge, there would be a few Genet cats appear, and they would dance around catching insects. Sometimes they would appear like this... on the rafters above our heads, where they would quietly sit and watch us.
So very cool.

In the 1950s West German animal conservationist Bernhard #Grzimek and his son Michael promoted the idea that Africa’s unspoilt natural environment was under threat from Africans themselves. Their film #Serengeti Shall Not Die (1959), shot in Tanzania (then Tanganyika), won the 1960 Oscar for best documentary feature.
Grzimek, a veterinary surgeon in the Wehrmacht before the second world war and later director of the Frankfurt am Main zoo, was also a member of the Nazi party, so his plan could be seen as #racist.

A hyena was dragging the remains of a baby wildebeest across the Serengeti, and all the vultures and other scavengers were following along.

The #Eocene #Mahenge site in #Tanzania 🇹🇿 is a rare exception to the rule that #fossil #ecosystems tend not to be preserved in their entirety. Located just south of the #Serengeti, the area has yielded #fossils of everything from plants - such as #Acacia mahengense - to #insects - like the #beetle Mahengea (just named this year!) - to #mammals - including the #bat Tanzanycteris - to Singidella, a #frog named for the nearby town of #Singida.
