In the Midwest, the end of May means finding local serviceberry bush and gorging yourself. So so good.

💚 Western (a wonderful native shrub) in exuberant bloom on my walk .

I think we were both enjoying the (unseasonably) warm sunshine 😬.

Got all my tomato's, eggplants, and peppers transplanted yesterday. Have to wait two weeks to direct-sew beans, okra, melons, and sweet potato (maybe, I'm running out of room for the sweet potato, can I trellis the vines?

Bonus photos of my strawberry plants (with garden gnome, Talia) and my Serviceberry blooms.

I purchased and planted this tree in 2010. It's now roughly 2 stories / 20 feet / 7 meters tall.

Gardenwise, it's at least a 3-season plant: spring bloom, summer berries, fall foliage. It's attractive to birds all year. Right now, the flowers attract insects, which bring in the birds.

“Hoarding won’t save us … All flourishing is mutual.“

I just listened to this beautiful piece on the nature of the natural world as a web of gift exchanges. The author reminds us that we, humans, are also part of the natural world; this is an economics we can share, and must if we want to save ourselves.

Planning a short “crack in the sky” presentation. To invite my coworkers into an ongoing public service project. Flying above the drizzly gray enveloping the last celebration of the blueberry bush leaves in the garden, thinking of Robin Wall Kimmerer who informed us that the Potawatomi word for the serviceberry is Bozakmin. And that “min,” the root for “berry,” also means “gift.” This is my throughline.
