@mikeschmitz Oh, ugh. #Setapp is pulling that “use on one Mac only, or pay more for one Mac a done iOS device, or pay more for multiple Macs and device” trick. Come on! And even the family plan, with its four users, is for one computer and one iOS device per person. Disappointing.

My #Ulysses subscription renewal is coming up, prompting a round of “Should I drop my deeply discounted early Ulysses subscriber deal and just sign up for #Setapp?” anxiety.

Ah, #Setapp. I know a lot of you love it. Hmmmmmm.

@markmcelroy @ellane The biggest downside to me is that if you stop subscribing to #SetApp (or there’s a processing glitch with your payment), all the apps completely stop working. That’s okay for utilities but a dealbreaker for productivity apps. (Iirc, with the direct subscription to Ulysses, at least you can open and export the work you’ve already created, even though you can’t work on it further.) There’s also a separate SetApp subscription to pay if you want the iOS versions of the apps.

@ellane A decision to revert back to #Ulysses for longform writing is making me curious about #SetApp, which includes Ulysses in its library of apps. The biggest roadblock for me with SetApp? I already own and use many of the included apps! But the idea of it intrigues me, still.

i am a huge fan of #SetApp and use my subscription on my iPad Pro, two macs, and my iPhone. one of my _FAVORITE_ tools is called #TextSniper.

basically you hit a keybind (cmd+shift+2 for me) and drag a box and it copies whatever text it recognizes in your box into your pasteboard so you can paste it into a message or notes easily.

i use it every day. dozens of times. it's amazing and when people see me doing it in workshops they always _ALWAYS_ ask how i do that 😂

one tool i use _a lot_ as a compulsive annotator and presenter is textsniper.app which is included in a #SetApp subscription! you draw a box and it OCR's what you boxed and puts it in the clipboard for you.

i use it like 100 times a day.

OK, Setapp review; interesting concept, quite a few apps, but ended up cancelling my sub after two weeks, because I don't like the amount of phoning home it does, and their corporate structure feels iffy. Like, make up your mind about where you want to be based? Kyiv? California? Dinky accountant's office in Ireland? Paris?

Not worth it, for me. Will just buy the apps I will actually use separately, and do without the extra hassle.

Kudos to the very clean uninstall procedure, though.

Wow #BusyCal for #macOS is really nice.

It’s had a visual redesign since last time I tried it. Looks great and has great features like easily adding a Zoom conference to a meeting, browsing my co-workers’ calendars, and letting *me* control when notifications are sent to invitees.

Using it via #SetApp but I also have a purchased license.
