dress ready for it’s first fabric fitting for a client, I always hand baste my zipper in place accurately to ensure all is good! I offset the underside from the seam line by about 2mm to ensure the teeth and stitches will be covered when it’s finally sewn in.

@sewing Ok, first things first: here’s the pocket bunny. It slept there for an hour or so while I finished the leggings, then I deposited it in some blackberries when I went out for groceries.
Now, first set of tips!
You can’t iron, for better or worse! Use clips, not pins. I make tiny snips for notches, and I use a Frixion pen for markings.
All knitwear patterns tell you to use a stretch stitch. But which one? And all the blog posts I could scrounge up when I started sewing said to use the setting that looks like a lightning bolt - but I don’t think any of my stitch pictures look like lightning bolts? So here’s the stretch stitch setting I use the most. It looks kinda like a row of VVV, so in my head I call it the Roman stitch. Zero width for seams.
My next tip is to ignore the pattern length of the pocket bindings. Cut them at least an inch longer on each side - that’ll give you a little starting point and a handle. Once you get the corner sewn down, you can ever so gently stretch the binding, so it ends up pulling the pocket opening closed. When it’s topstitched, just trim the binding to the width of the pocket!

Trouble threading a needle? Try wetting the eye of the needle rather than the thread. I sew when I have to (crudely) and my eyes aren't what they used to be. This tip came at the right time for me. or

Does anyone have any tips for this type of fabric? It's very shiny and synthetic, scratchy type of material. It's also quite thin. @sewing

Sorry I'm not very good at explaining the fabric! 😁

Sharing is caring : For quick and neat finishes specially on small and delicate pieces, I recommend this glue by Aleene's. Can be remove by water and it's a very clean glue. As the bottle says it is a temporary, so after use it is needed.

If you ever wind up sewing a belt for some reason- TOPSTITCH THE EDGES. I cannot stress enough how important this is. Not only does it keep the belt flat without ironing, it magically makes all your mistakes look cool and intentional!

Okay so you *can* sew lace on a normal sewing machine but you *cannot* expose it to the hole or depend on the feed dogs to feed it through easily
So 100% put paper or something underneath that you can tear off after (unless you're sewing it to an easier to deal with fabric, in which case just make sure the lace is on the top)
