It's from a pic of one of my cosmos in the backyard. At this rate, it will be finished by Halloween.

Actually, if I plug away an hour a day, it will take another week? Maybe?

Calling all #sewists and #sewers and otherwise-monikered folks into #sewing who like to #sew (I'm covering my bases here): What kind of storage solutions do you use for sewing supplies and fabric?

I've accumulated a lot of random stuff over the years as I dreamed of actually acquiring a sewing habit, and now that I own a house I need to put it all in a rational order, but I haven't used the supplies enough to know what that would be!

Any UK based #dressmakers, #crafters or #sewists have any favourite online fabric stores? I have a sudden hankering to make new seasonal covers for all the cushions kicking around my house.

are there any #sewists here who primarily sew for men? i'm trying to find some tips on shortening the front rise for a #swayback + belly.

i've found lots of tips both online and in print for bringing the waist *up* (an alteration mostly aimed at women), but precious little on lowering the waist so that it passes under the belly.

I’ve recently ventured beyond my comfort zone of @sewing pants and into sewing shirts, tops and a dress. I made T. this linen shirt from the #sandersbuttonup shirt pattern created by the super talented Lauren at Elbe Textiles, and a #wikstenshiftdress for myself in mid-weight cotton.

Going through the process of making the Sanders button up shirt (as well as making all my beloved #pietrapants and #peppermintwidelegpants) makes me appreciate sewing techniques that although aren’t easily visible make a garment hold its shape and last a long time.

Most interesting aspects of sewing these are the pockets, the plackets and the hanging loop detail at the back of the shirt, and the gathered details at the back yoke of the dress. The challenging bits were easing in the sleeves into the armholes of the shirt and figuring out how to not compromise the side splits on the dress if when finishing with french seams.

I picked up this 1965 Vintage Singer 338 off gumtree a few years ago and it's my go-to machine.

Made in Kilbowie in #Scotland, all metal, bunch of cam discs for fancy stitches. £20 as opposed to the couple hundred new embroidery machines cost. And she sews through ANYTHING and I can service her.

I love #sewing (mostly clothes from indie pattern design companies) and currently studying #InformationManagement and #librarystudies. I've had a long career teaching #literature in international and higher education, but burnout finally got me after teaching remotely over the pandemic lockdowns for almost two years. I am making the move into another career, employed in a part-time job that offers much better work-life balance and opportunities to develop new skills.
