Given what they had to work with, I'd call this season "respectable" if they at least end the season at or above 500 and marginally successful if they can at least make into the playoffs.
I don't know what "special sauce" they use in LA (and it isn't just the $) but it's currently impossible to compete w/the Dodgers and, in the near term, the only way the Giants can get into the playoffs is via a wildcard slot.
They still have a "chance" to do that this year. They are currently only 2 games behind AZ in 3rd place in the wildcard race but IMO it's still a longshot for them to grab the 3rd spot unless they can really turn it on to finish the season.
We'll see . . . 🤷♂️
Much like many elite little league teams could, the #SFGiants have swept the Rockies. ❤️⚾️
We're usually going on about the beautiful views in the 300 level at #SFGiants' games, so here's wgcoll's immersive view from behind the visitor's bullpen in CF.
Throwing here will be:
Rockies 9/8-10,
Guardians 9/11-13,
Padres 9/25-27,
& Dodgers 9/29-10/1.

The Giants play the Rockies 5 more times and play the Guardians 3 times in the next 8 games. The Rockies & Guardians both have losing records.
These are the games that the Giants should and need to win before they have to face LA 7 times, AZ 2 times and SD 3 times to end the season.
The Giants have just taken 2 out of 4 from CO & if they can take a total of 8 out of 10 from CO & DC, they'll have a chance to finish the season at or above 500, as long as they can win at least 4 out of 12 from LA, AZ & SD, which IMO is far from a sure thing.
I was glad to see Kapler take Web out after 6 shutout innings tonight. Every time he's let Webb go 7, Webb's given up runs when he didn't have the advantage of a 9 run lead.
I'm in on Bailey & Matos but am unsure about Schmidt & Harrison. I think the latter 2 definitely need more time in the minors.
Schmidt is a pretty good infielder but he has made fielding mistakes and he swings & misses at sh*t outside the strike zone all too often.
Harrison is a strong thrower but he doesn't seem to have enough movement to fool big league hitters. He had 1 good outing but the others were a struggle.
I don't think Kapler can be blamed for the Giants hitting woes, especially with RISP.
My main gripe w/Kapler is that he leaves pitchers in too long.
I don't care about pitchers' egos. They're "big boys" & professionals. IMO, when a pitcher doesn't have good stuff (like Beck or Harrison) or if he's been in long "enough" w/o giving up any runs, like Webb, I say just pull him. That's what the bullpen's for.
Hindsight is 20/20 but I can't count the # of games that I found myself yelling at the screen for Kapler to pull the pitcher (doesn't matter which one) who then gave up the game losing runs! 🥺
Other than that, Kapler is a pretty conventional manager. He likes to use the bunt more than most but he can't perform miracles & he can only do what, he can do with what the front office gives him.
This year, it was just rookies and the rookie tryouts were mixed. Bailey is a keeper. Matos probably too but the rest IMO are questionable. The vets need a close looking at too!

Interesting info but I can't read the article because of the paywall.
So, it would be useful if can can quote or paraphrase other relevant parts of the article for those of us who do not have a subscription to The Athletic.
Thanks!

Unless something changes dramatically, I will not have anything further to say about the Giants this season.
They had a couple of nice runs but it's clear that this "cut & paste" team of rookies and jouneymen players is clearly inferior to the best teams in the MLB, many of whom they've played recently, and it is highly unlikely that they'll make the playoffs, let alone finish w/a win-loss record over 500, which is where they currently stand at 70-70 with 22 games left to play.
I hope that they do better than I expect and will be ready to sing their praises if they do but the odds clearly are not in their favor. 😦
Here's hoping that the team will do better next year. 🙏

I owned a house on Ewing Terrance off of Masonic just south of Geary for few years in the early 1980's.
I'm not sure but this location may have been the site of one of these early cemeteries on what was then the western edge of town.
However, it is documented that this location was the site of a baseball field for awhile following the 1906 Earthquate & Fire, called Ewing Field, where the SF Seals played during the early 1900's, presumably after any gravesites located there were moved.

Giants win-loss record
It’s September 6th and the #SFGiants no longer have a winning record this season. Sigh.
The #SFGiants’ collapse began right around the time the organization decided to send both Matos and Schmitt down to Triple-A, while simultaneously deciding to grab Pollock and Mathias from the Mariners & move those 2 into the lineup. This organization can’t judge talent or even make good business decisions.
