Oh my god. Spurred by a post by @kingrat last night, I just went to see what databases I can get access to with my #SFPL library card. JSTOR. EBSCO. How could I not have realized this in the decade or so I've been without academic library privileges? Shaking my damn head. #Libraries are the absolute best.
Co-worker asked about how he'd go about learning about software architecture. He's in our science-oriented department, where they do some code for research projects, but not for building products.
Anyway, I showed him how he has access to O'Reilly Online Learning through SFPL, which includes lots of great recent texts on software architecture, as well as online courses. If you want to learn computer tech without spending money, there's probably no better resource.

My weekly love for my local library: #SFPL has an excellent selection of sheet music and music books.
I picked up two essential Jeremy Siskind books. I’m much further along in my jazz sax training (after doing 2 years of lessons with Charles Unger and Greg Fishman), but I still feel somewhat stuck in the classical world when it comes to piano.

My public library is so good. I just walked in a borrowed a language program that costs $500 if you buy it (better than any online course); 3 jazz vinyls and 6 DVDs of stuff I know I can’t easily get from streamers.
If I was short on time I could have added all those to my holds list yesterday and they would put them all in one place so I can just walk in and check out. Easy.
#SFPL is so important to me!

SFPL will be presenting a class on Piñata making next weekend. I watched some kids bashing away at a piñata yesterday at a park. The one they used took a beating before it gave up any goodies. Not sure if this will teach how to make them that tough.

It's early July, which means I'm engaging with one of my favorite biannual rituals: donating to the SF Public Library for all the books I borrowed/read in the first half of the year.
I'm fortunate/privileged to be able to buy all the books I read, but I prefer to borrow them from the library and support this vital resource for all. so I choose to give back by donating their value.
for #sfpl, you can donate cash in two ways:
1) to the library directly, which involves this pesky form
https://sfpl.org/sites/default/files/2023-02/SFPL-667GiftForm_rev02.2023.pdf
2) to the Friends of the San Francisco Public Library with far fewer hoops
https://www.friendssfpl.org/support.html
if you have an informed opinion on the best way to donate (I know several of my followers work for the city), please share it here, im genuinely curious.

Found a free beautifully built 2'x5' shelf for CDs and tapes on the sidewalk outside Park branch #sfpl Just realized now it was a snare set by librarians, took it home and started shifting shelves which shifted more shelves which has me listening to every cd, mini-cd, tape, vinyl...the works all over again. It's the fuckin rapture over here.
After watching season 2, episode three of Schmiggadoon/Schmicago, Michele K-Tel insisted I needed to see "Hair". Available on Hoopla, (via San Francisco Public Library,) it is a bit dated and quasi-sensical, but still enjoyable. She is insisting Jesus Christ Superstar is next, after a break to recover.

I read a TON and it’s mostly Kindle/audio books I borrow (online) through #SFPL, but I rarely visit a branch. Today I stopped by my local SFPL branch to pick up a DVD I had requested (Fast Five, MFers!) and found they now have a “Lucky Day” shelf where you can pick up an available paper copy of popular books that have long wait lists online. A great way to get people into local branches! 📚👍

1) Aikido in the park with my 13-yr-old.
2) San Francisco Public libraries #SFPL are a treasure. I’m reading while the kiddo borrows their sewing machine at The Mix (teen area at the Main).
3) Planning a family trip this week. Seeing siblings after four years might actually be good.
If you get ebooks from the San Francisco Public Library, you should definitely sign up for Axis360 as well as Libby. The app experience is horrendous, but because it's underused you can get immediate access to many books that you'd have to wait weeks for on Libby.

Time to vote for new #SFPL library cards! I love the designs this year. https://sfpl.org/library-card-contest
Just explained to TJ how he can get ebooks and audiobooks from the library on his tablet, and he doesn't have to worry about losing them. SFPL took away his library card years ago because he kept losing books he checked out. Now he's gonna go see if he can get a card again so he can listen to audiobooks on his tablet.
Who’s going to Night of Ideas at the #SFPL tonight? 🙋🏻♀️

@ampersand #SFPL is great! But a lot of great comics work is published by small presses—which are not distributed by the big distributors that libraries depend on 😕
@tylerzonia <jumps up and down in excitement> Thank you! So many new names! Will start searching—looks like mostly not at #SFPL
@Unatributed @bookstodon Our #SFPL public library uses hoopla. It is a bit clunky, but feels good to go to the library first before other sources.
