We’ve wrapped up a short stint trying out #ShadowdarkRPG. Verdict? Awesome.

Next week, we finally dive into #Pathfinder2e to see what it’s like. I’m excited.

I cannot emphasize how EASY #ShadowdarkRPG is to run and teach. I did a 3 hour gauntlet with my group in July. Then we played thru Winter’s Daughter (OSE) over 2 sessions (about 3.5 hours total). Each session had at least one person new to the system.

Generating random characters and understanding your character sheet takes a total of about 2 mins. Absolutely incredible.

Time needed to convert the adventure to #ShadowdarkRPG? Zero. Doable on the fly.

28. I‘m the forever DM, remember? So I consider „played“ as „run“ or „enjoyed“. And that has to be the #ShadowdarkRPG because I really don’t want to just kill the PCs in our main campaign and the game is very dangerous as well as swingy! 🎲

Even considering the mysteriously missing votes from the comments, Arden Vul looks like the GOAT with roughly 50% of the votes. 🐐

This is an intriguing project, especially because it is available in print via DTrpg. 📚

Well I read the introductions and a somewhat familiar name popped up: @Glgnfz 🍄

With #ShadowdarkRPG I already got kind of the modern #dnd edition I was craving for: #dnd6e of the hearts ☺️ A modern take on the dragongame minus all the rules bloat which is compatible with my #osr stuff.
Okay … wait, maybe I would like a second edition of #TheBurningWheel (less complex and fiddly, so that I can actual grog and play it)

I am excited about all the 3rd party content for #ShadowDark that is coming out. I just backed this one, which looks very promising!

COMPLEX / SIMPLE RPG you play

Probably the most complex has to be BattleTech: A Time of War. It's a little too crunchy for me and combat takes forever due to all the calculations and rule-checking. Seriously needs a decent VTT system to automate some of that (sadly there isn't one)

The most simple is probably either Shadowdark or Ironsworn.

The complex one is complex as I try to avoid these nowadays. The maybe most complex one I played the hell out of is #DnD3e / #Pathfinder (1e).

Easy and streamlined iteration of the dragon game. A recognizeable „dnDNA“ game which uses the base mechanics of 5e (but is way less fiddly) and embraces an old school style of play. If you want to bring a dnd game to the table as quick as possible, and an adventure game that feels „dangerous“: Shadowdark! 6e of hearts ❤️

Aber du hast natürlich Recht:
Unser Homebrew Setting ist eine Insel (Avalon). Ich träume von einem Kampagne auf einem Schiff das die Küsten abfährt und so von einem Abenteuer in das nächste Abenteuer gerät.
System ist eher zweitrangig, aber ich denke da derzeit an das #ShadowdarkRPG oder #ThroughSunkenLands.

EDIT: Und natürlich eine #Lankhmar -Kampagne mit der #DCCrpg Box!

@fulfordmalcolm @craigofinspiration Too forgiving, yes: too superheroes + medieval-ish trappings. HP bloat, three death saves… having said this, I still like the unified core mechanics quite a bit. Hacks like #ShadowDarkRPG or #FiveTorchesDeep do a fine job trimming the recent iteration of game down to something that is way more enjoyable to me. But (!) 5e’s forgiveness is probably one reason for its success. Many people like the power fantasy / heroism focus I guess
