A little #earthquake for the evening.
I miss all the #ShakeAlert and #USGS folks/bots I used to follow on Twitter 😥

As always, it's nice to remember that the correct earthquake protective action at night is "if you are in bed, stay in bed and wait it out". So if you just laid there waiting for the shaking to stop, congrats, you did the right thing! #LAQuake

The earthquake was too small to trigger the delivery of #ShakeAlert-powered alerts to cell phones. We know some of you felt shaking and we hope you took a protective a…

The more successful real-life tests of ShakeAlert in CA means that when we get a big quake in WA, many of us will get some advance warning via phone alerts.
This is very important for the next M9.0 Cascadia Subduction Zone quake, where the I-5 corridor may get up to 1 min before destructive shaking originating offshore reaches places like Seattle.
Something I wrote in 2019 about ShakeAlert:

Congrats to everyone who has worked on developing the ShakeAlert earthquake early warning system in recent years. With Tuesday's M6.4 earthquake in California, the “system is doing exactly what it should be," Robert de Groot of the USGS ShakeAlert team tells the L.A. Times.
Most of the 3 million people notified on Tuesday were Google/Android users where ShakeAlert is preprogrammed into phones.

Good morning Redwood Coast CA. Did you feel the magnitude 6.4 quake about 7.5 miles southwest of Ferndale at 2:34 am? The #ShakeAlert system was activated. See: https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/nc73821036/executive

Earthquake alerts are a wonderful thing.
And good luck to everyone around Eureka with the cleanup.

Preliminary reports are suggesting that this large earthquake near Eureka, CA overnight produced significant damage in Humboldt County. With widespread power and cell outages in the area, details may take a while to come out. #earthquake

Update: Over 55,000 customers are without power in Northern California after a Magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck near Eureka. A tsunami is NOT expected.
@jrosen707 6.4 sounds quite a strong magnitude, and you would have slept through it?
