I went to Shamisen two-hour workshop. It is a kind of guitar of Japan. The score was completely unknown cipher to me at the beginning however I can read some now.
The top half of the photo shows finger position at neck. The bottom two are the most simple scores.
The right Sonae (ソナエ) is only three open strings. I couldn't record our play during practice.

The drunk bass player uses a bachi- the "pick" used to play a #shamisen - I don't know if it's common, but I've never seen it before.
It would save your fingers and be more forceful than a regular guitar pick.
