On Shared Spaces...

New legislation has been proposed by Sup. Safai that would significantly reduce the amount the City charges for parklets/dining sheds.

For instance, for a typical two space parklet, the city fees would be reduced from $4500 to apply and $4000 per year to just $4000 for year.

Since the old charges did not cover the cost to the City of administering the program, this represents a fairly significant savings to the restaurant association at the expense of the City budget.

(Originally those charges were halved for a business with gross receipts less that $2m; that threshold has been raised to $2.5m)

Since the #SharedSpaces on Valencia stopped a few months ago, the following restaurants on or just off of the street have all closed:
- Pi
- Ancora
- Phat Philly
- Hawker Fare
- Chezchez
- The Phoenix (building to be demolished for apartments)

It's interesting to me how #anarchists have embraced #Mastodon. It somehow resonates so well with the ideas of #SharedSpaces, #communities and #communes, where no one is entitled to be a part of any #commune. The first question is, "How can I contribute to a server so that they will take me".

It brings people together, where #capitalism atomizes people. For many, it is a completely foreign form of existence, where #individualism is not explicitly promoted.

#Socialhousing is not a dirty word.

This is a must watch for people interested in #housing in vibrant communities that is #livable, #safe, #affordable. It requires inclusion of the #non-profit sector and an openess of #citizens to #sharedspaces, #density, #walkability and #urbanlifestyle.
