Let’s hope folks got practice in the past winter letting water sit so it can filter down to the aquifers too! Flood those orchards!

We were driving back from Mt Lassen when we stopped for a coffee and from the parking lot of a Starbucks I caught this view of Mt Shasta. It was interesting to see the juxtaposition of things like this. I proceed the image in Lightroom Mobile to selectively pop just the red to enhance the visual contrast between the subjects. This #whale-sized #marine #reptile in the #RoyalTyrrellMuseum is the #ichthyosaur Shastasaurus sikkaniensis. Unusually, it was not only one of the earliest members of its group, but one of the very largest. Its #species name comes from where it was found, along the Sikanni Chief River which flows out of the #RockyMountains of #BritishColumbia 🇨🇦. Its #genus name comes from Mt. #Shasta in the #CascadeRange, where other species of this Triassic titan have been found.

The plant is #Native to the area around #Lake #Shasta. A member of the #Rose #Family, it has the charming common name Shasta #Snow #Wreath.
One of California's rarest #Plants, the #Beautiful #Blossom lasts 10 days in the #Spring. It looks like a white spikey #Puffball made up of a cluster of #Stamens rather than #Petals.
Today there are roughly 20 clusters of Shasta Snow-Wreath in California.
