Had to (install and) insert Fairfax HD into a list of monospace family aliases to see any Shavian characters in a terminal emulator due to Qt font fallback limit. A bit too small when combined with other fonts, but at least it's better than empty rectangles.

Not sure who runs shavian.school, but the css override for dark mode does not override the green background on the letter examples, which makes it hard to read. Looks fine in light mode

I’ve kind been on a “mood” lately and doing “unusual” stuff. I want to learn the #Shavian alphabet and start writing English in that just so I can feel cool and in a 1000 years from now, one archaeologist will look at my notes with great interest…

Når ein lese shavian, så vett ein med ein gang om kossen det ska uttalas. Ein trenge ikkje å ha hørt ordet før. Derfor lere du uttale gjennom lesing. Og du lere å snakka språket raskare.

Bokstavene gjer hint te uttale. På denne måten lere ein alfabetet raskare.

Når der bler lettare å lera seg engelsk, så kan dette utgjøra forskjellen mellom å skapa motivasjon og mista motivasjon for språket. #shavian

One neat thing I've noticed as I've worked at learning to read #Shavian is how my experience has mirrored what I've seen in kids I've taught who were learning how to read. For example, I still spend a lot of time sounding out the letters, but now and then I come across a "sight word" where I just know what it is on sight, without needing to sound it out. Also, how I sometimes get impatient and just try to guess words based on what I think is likely given the context, and how those guesses are often wrong 🤣

I guess I find this neat as a reminder that kids and adults aren't so different, really. Literacy is a hard skill to learn! Because most adults don't ever try to learn a new alphabet, I think we forget.
