Sunday shawl Houlland Hap designed by Donna Smith. I knit this using Eden Cottage Titus Lace in Antique Rose I don’t wear it but knit it to learn & enjoy an expanse of lace It’s the tree motif frequently used in Shetland knitting. I didn’t realise at the time the yarn I chose was finer for learning but I finished it. Week 3, Day 2: Gwaihir, by Lindsay Scarey

After I had made my daughter a blanket out of a bulky yarn, she requested a shawl to wrap around herself. The tan one is called a "study hug" and she uses it often. It's made in Valley Yarns Haydenville because it can be washed (yes, it has had coffee spilled on it).

While I was making it, my mom kept stealing it, so I had her pick a color and made one for her, too.

This pattern taught me to read charts.

Week 3, day 1 - Purposeful holes!

Let's go all the way back to Dec2018-Jan2019 when I made my first real lace project. This is Peace of the Wild Things from Helen Stewart, and I was a lot terrified of the lace. Someone suggested beading, so I hunted down someone else who'd made it with beads and added them to the pattern as well, so it was two firsts in one.

My only disappointment in this shawl is that it's small and I'm large.

My circular knitting needle broke mid knitting. I was able to find a back up longer circular at my local yarn store. I will just have to back two rows, which it kind of worked out to restarting a new chart block. I will add a holder with a just in case it breaks. @knitting #shawlknitting #circularknittingneedlebroke

A second post before the first week of color is over: my recently finished Invisibility Shawl. While I was knitting it, a friend said "Those colors are super bright! Isn't that the opposite of invisible?" and I said "and you have nailed some of the irony in the bi flag..."

This shawl was my own pattern, with Aran weight yarn from the Periwinkle Sheep (a local dyer--I am sad the aran base is no longer available as it is SQUISHYsoft).

I picked up my #AuroraCabinShawl #HKAL2022 after a break and my row counter didn't tally with my notes so I had lost my place. So I ripped out and started over, this time reversing the colour sequence as per Stephen's instructions. I finished sections 1-3 in two days, so I'm off to a good start!
