One of the things I'm an enthusiast about is poor farms. Here's a short history on the poor farm in my county.

I would wager this is where the name for Burch Road came from. "M. Burch" owned 80 acres along this road. Burch Road is between 85th and 93rd just east of Wanamaker. #ShawneeCounty #Kansas #history

I took a tour of the Shawnee North Community Center today. Built between 1920-1923, it was originally the Shawnee County Poor Farm.
I'll post more pictures in the usual places within the week or so but Mastodon will get a little tease.
There are hopes to create a small museum at the center detailing the history of the land. I hope it happens. #ShawneeCounty #Kansas #history #poorfarms #parks #hospitals

All three #ShawneeCounty commissioner seats split #Topeka. They converge along Burlingame between 27th and 29th.
So #DouglasCounty, #Kansas which has a population of about 120,000 people is expanding their county commission so that the rural areas have more of a say and #Lawrence doesn't dominate the county.
Meanwhile, #ShawneeCounty, which has 60,000 more people, continues to gerrymander #Topeka out of any say when they could just as easily add two more seats.
