...whoa, either I *utterly* failed to use the right terms the last time I went looking for non-super-duper-professional printers capable of printing ARCH A (9" x 12",) or companies have started making them in the last couple of years?

Looks like there are a number of options out there in the ~$250 range that can handle up to 11x17. Predictably, they're all inkjet/all-in-one units, which is too bad.

But oh, to be able to print at its intended, comfortable size :blobsweats:

New YT video up. 3 Tools I find helpful within Finale. Tools that you typically find beginners needing after they get past the initial curve of learning how to enter notes.

More arranging, this time starting on a new version of two tunes. These are in the original stage show version, but were dropped from the 1955 movie. I've adored them for a long time. 's 1982 version of them is a particular favourite of mine, ever since the 1980s, though I never saw that performance on stage.

More sheet acquisitions tonight, ready for some more new version arrangements. I adore working out my own arrangements like this. That’s the piano, vocal and guitar sheet music versions of and . And, crikey, the full vocal score for . I have never worked with one of those before, but it gives me some less reproduced tunes that I love.

Woke up with 'Do-Re-Mi' from in my head

when I was a kid I was so confused by this song. Why did they have to fuck up normal musical notes by giving them dumb names?

"When you know the notes to sing/You can sing most anything"

"Um what are you on about, have you not got ears, those will tell you the notes to sing," thought little Mel

As a kid I really struggled to read and I had to count out the staves and spaces for every damn note, hum or play them to myself very slowly until a melody emerged that I could commit to memory

Every good boy deserves fruit

FACE

(I forget the bass clef one because I am a mezzo-soprano who played the clarinet)

Intervals are much more important to me than notes in terms of figuring out how to sing or play

My music lesson reports from childhood are all like "Why can't Melissa improve her sight-reading"

The first time I played in an orchestra in high school (year 8 concert band) was a nightmare. I basically learned my parts by listening to and copying the saxophones, who had similar parts

My piano learning was very much driven by memory, which is why these days I play best from chord charts: I see a written chord and I figure out the best voicing, based on my mental library of chord voicings and how easy it will be to transition to the next chord

if I already know the song, I can also figure out how to play it so it sounds 'right' in my head

I tried to explain this to my friend Lauren who was learning the piano, and I was amazed by how unintuitive she found this

The limit of this approach, however, is that most songs I play sound samey and I have zero skills with the left hand except for playing bass notes.

I'm so embarrassed about playing for 'proper' musicians because of this, but normies don't notice so I can be like a bad saloon-bar pianist to them

Orchestral sheet music arrangement for Nocturno.

I posted Nocturno on Youtube in April 2020. Now I have made an arrangement for a little ensemble of 9 musicians, for a live event.

(And the companion hack for identifying a key signature by number of flats, which is '1 flat = F, >1 Flat, the penultimate flat is the key signature'.)

Pretty good mnemonic for memorizing the order of flat key signatures:

Big
Elephants
Always
Drive
Golf
Carts
Fast

Törmäsinpä nuotteja etsiessäni Purcellin "Under this stone lies Gabriel John"-kaanoniin ja totesin että tämähän menee omalle hautajaissoittolistalle. Pitihän se sitten kokeilla kääntääkin. Olkaa hyvä, "Hengetön On".

Sometimes I'm wondering why sometimes it's so hard for me to read
Like. as soon as a chord is "written out" my brain seems to segfault.

I recently transcribed the music to paper from Nocturno
I posted Nocturno in April 5th 2020 and it's one of my favourites piano recordings.
There are 2 pdf versions available: printed and handwritten.
