So ’s explanation is the simplest one. But it is something I can relate to living in . I can’t even bring myself to imagine setting foot into a (Buddhist or Shinto) temple in while wearing my shoes!

Why did God make Moses remove his sandals? “Thus the entire site became holy and therefore the wearing of sandals was forbidden. A similar case is found in Joshua. Likewise, the priests ministered in the Sanctuary only while barefoot.”

Why did Pharaoh want to kill the male Israelite children? Rashi says:

“He was particular only about the male children because his astrologers had told him that there was to be born to a Hebrew woman a son who would become their deliverer (Exodus Rabbah 1:18).”
