Yes, inevitable given current conditions but also pretty shocking that there are in in . You do worry that this might become “normal” all too soon, and that we forget how things used to be (always changing of course but still).

Why do we accept these obscene levels of in the ? demand soaring and soaring; families who only have £4 per week for ; better paid staff routinely bringing in food so that their colleagues can make it through the day. Meanwhile more and wealth at the top than ever. Yet all “normal” by now. We have not just with but also inequality

@outi “people live so much in the moment and don’t really remember the past”. that is so, so true. And we don’t now have a “deep history” culture that could compensate for that; modernity so much about the present. This matters so much with regard to the - and as you say,
is one aspect of that

This is a fascinating thread about the ecological + social vandalism in 17th century England, that was the draining of the - comparable in some ways to the draining of the marshes in southern Iraq.
