The #ShinetsuBishokuValley (#信越美食バレー ) or #ShinetsuGastronomicCouncil got officially launched on Wednesday morning and our lovely prefectural daily newspaper did a nice article about our first directors meeting in the Thursday edition (yesterday).

I got the organization’s bank account approved yesterday and we now have a domain name and an online sign up process being tested by the other directors.

Day 114 - Shiga Kogen - Got in 16km at Ichinose Family before the rain started this morning. Inductions were much better than expected and the expert run was especially fun early in the morning.

Day 112 - Shiga Kogen - (I forgot to upload this last Thursday and my buddy was up visiting for the past few days so I haven’t been skiing since then.) It was a super warm day but the first few runs were really nice. The Okushiga Gondola and Downhill course was closed though due to high winds. Had a really nice lunch at the Grand Phenix. Wondering how many days we have left this season.

Day 111 - Shiga Kogen - Another great spring ski day at #Kumanoyu. I am so lucky! Not much else to say except that I had gapao rice for lunch at the lodge… thought it was a weird menu item for a mountain resort 🤣

Day 110 - Shiga Kogen - Yay! 110! Back at #Kumanoyu again today. The pistes were not quite as smooth as yesterday but the weather was just as nice. All the spring skiing is goving me a taste for the way the pistes go from rock hard rocket 🚀 first thing in the morning, to slightly softer but awesome carving pistes, to very soft slasher spring pistes - all in a matter of two hours. It was a blast.

Day 109 - Shiga Kogen - Took three days off to relax, bake, and meet friends. Today I went up to #Kumanoyu and was really impressed how well they’ve maintained their pistes despite the lack of snow and unbelievably warm weather. I got in 10 km this morning, and got reminded of just how beautiful it is here.

Day 108 - Shiga Kogen - Today was the last day I am able to ski from Yamanoeki to Okushiga and back again since the snow is melting so fast in the lower areas of Shiga Kogen. It was a decent run so far but this season really has been low on snow compared to the past three years. I gave plates of my homemade cookies to the staff I see everyday and thanked them for their kindness these past months. Got 20km in by 11AM.

Day 107 - Shiga Kogen - It was nice again today but decided to take it easier than the past few days. Was able to get 12 km in mostly at Terakoya and Ichinose Family. There were very few people around today.

BTW, the snow monkeys were back again today in the parking lot.

Day 106 - Shiga Kogen - Another terrific day - feeling really lucky. Did the Yamanoeki to Okushiga roundtrip while visiting Terakoya twice. Morning pistes were fast and I clocked a max speed of over 80km/h while skiing over 30km all day. Did the same Grand Phenix lunch salad again which I’ve fallen in love with. The Basque cheesecake is also ridiculously delicious 🤤

Day 105 - Shiga Kogen - Wow 🤩 Just a fabulous day today after the 5cm - 10cm of fresh snow last night and the blue sky finally coming out for a while. I got up to Terakoya for a couple of runs while doing a Nishidate to Okushiga round trip again - about 26km. Wondering how many more of these there will be this season.

Day 103 - Shiga Kogen - (Forgot to upload this yesterday) Pleasantly surprised at the light snow falling at higher altitudes so I skied all the way over to Okushiga for a great salad 🥗 lunch at Grand Phenix and back again to the Yamanoeki bus terminal. It was about 20 km. Snow was pretty good for all this warm weather and precipitation 🌧️

Day 102 - Shiga Kogen - Took the day off yesterday since it was insanity level 7 pollen day. It was way too warm, and very foggy this morning, but the snow was surprisingly fast and life was good 😻

Day 101 - Shiga Kogen - Took the day off yesterday to run errands. I’ve really been amazed that even with the extremely warm weather this past week, the snow is still holding up reasonably well until about 10:30AM so I’m getting in a couple of hours till things get too soft for my liking. The snow monkeys have been moving into the ski resort due to the warm weather apparently, too.
