The entrance to the main office of the former Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company in Govan, Glasgow. It was designed by John Keppie and was built in 1891.

After saving his fatherâs failing #shipyard, he turned it into a #shipbuilding power, constructing #clipperships #steamships #warships etc. After the #civilwar he closed the shipyard and founded the Webb Academy, now the #webbinstitute in #glencove #NewYork Webb died in 1899 and is interred in #woodlawn #cemetery in #thebronx. The Barclay Curle Titan: Glasgow's other crane.
Built in 1920 by Sir William Arrol and Co for the Barclay Curle Shipyard in Whiteinch, this is an A-listed structure, but it seems little is being done to preserve it.

The Russian-owned yard has been floundering due to western sanctions, even though its owners have not been directly targeted by sanctions against Russia over the war on Ukraine.
The Helsinki Shipyard, established in 1865, specialises in Arctic shipbuilding, including icebreakers. It has changed hands and names many times.

The statue of William Pearce and the Pearce Institute, which is named after him, at Govan Cross in Glasgow.
Built in 1906 to a design by Rowand Anderson, the Pearce Institute was gifted to the working people of Govan by Lady Pearce in memory of her late husband who ran the nearby Fairfield Shipyard and turned it into one of the most advanved in the world.

Carved keystone head over the entrance to the old Fairfield Shipyard on Govan Road. Dating from 1890, the sculpture is by McGilvray & Ferris.
Judging by the winged headdress, it represents Thor, the hammer-wielding Norse god of Thunder, which would be quite appropriate given the all the cacophony of noise created by ship-building.
