After saving his father’s failing #shipyard, he turned it into a #shipbuilding power, constructing #clipperships #steamships #warships etc. After the #civilwar he closed the shipyard and founded the Webb Academy, now the #webbinstitute in #glencove #NewYork Webb died in 1899 and is interred in #woodlawn #cemetery in #thebronx. Canada's biggest shipbuilder, Davie, plans to buy the Helsinki Shipyard.
The Russian-owned yard has been floundering due to western sanctions, even though its owners have not been directly targeted by sanctions against Russia over the war on Ukraine.
The Helsinki Shipyard, established in 1865, specialises in Arctic shipbuilding, including icebreakers. It has changed hands and names many times.

Die Werftcrew sucht dringend qualifizierte Elektrodenschweißer*innen mit Erfahrung, die selbständig Baustellen abschließen können. Nachdem jetzt einige Zeit leider kein NGO-Schiff in der #SAR Zone unterwegs waren, ist vor 24h die #LouiseMichel aufgebrochen und wurde von den anderen Schiffen gebührend verabschiedet 💜
Mit der Louise sind zudem die #GeoBarrents und #OceanViking auf dem Weg.
