At #ShmooCon last year, so saw @circuitswan ‘s name badge and asked where she got it. Then I procrastinated so long that where to find me on the internet changed (hi, fediverse!) before finally ordering these a few weeks ago.
One for at tech events, and one for with #Quakers. Both with pronouns, bilingually.
GRRRR. I totally got scammed by the Hilton Grand Vacations sales rep at the Washington Hilton during #ShmooCon! He assured me repeatedly that putting down a deposit was fully refundable, so I went ahead and signed up for one. We're now finding we can't reasonably get to the location. When I call, they're telling to essentially F-off. I can change destinations, but it's otherwise NOT REFUNDABLE. And, sure enough, on the agreement I signed, it says that. SO THE SALES REP LIED.
Fuck Hilton Grand Vacations. My first and last experience with those assholes. Absolutely horrible. I need to file a complaint somewhere as this is BS.
#DARPA CFT (Cyber Fast Track) was a great program. It created an on ramp that brought a niche, boutique, community into govt funding circles. Loved these presentations by #mudge

Better late than never. I want to thank everyone that streamed or came out to watch my talk at #shmoocon!
So my daughter took the amateur radio license exam at #shmoocon a couple weeks ago. And passed!
She’s finally shown up in the FCC database. I paid the fee, and am now waiting for the payment to pass “pending” and get issued a call sign.
And guess what I noticed? They swapped her first and last name on the application form. It’s correct in the linked FCC Record (FRN), but backwards in the license application. I wonder how badly this is gonna screw up the process....
OTOH, it’s entirely possible that this happens all the time and nobody ever notices or cares. It is, after all, a government services...
My latest CSO column looks at the UN effort to create a new cybercrime convention and the challenges to be resolved in a tight timeframe. I've stuck around the Midwest mostly for cons like @CircleCityCon #Thotcon #GrrCon and Bsides mostly. I've spoken at #shmoocon and been to #defcon. But this week I went to #cactuscon and it was awesome!
Can ya recommend other cons to go to? I want to get out of my comfort zone, but I'd like to know where people are going. Bonus points if their CFP is still open ;)

COVID notification number 2 after being at #ShmooCon over the weekend… le sigh…
It was so much fun being the keyhole this year at #shmoocon! I want to see your pics, cuz the keyhole does not have hands for selfies
So here’s a run down of my trip to #shmoocon:
Flew down on Thursday . Turbulence made me think I was going to die. I fly a lot and this was extra bad.
Friday: Snow storm back Home necessitated spouse to use snow blower. Spouse sticks fingers into snowblower with expected results. Fingers still there, but stitches and broken stuff.
Saturday: I present
Sunday: I watch someone spend $3000 on a star gate. The rest is details. Fly back home again think I’m going to die. Land at Boston, wait on tarmac for 2.5 hours for delta to get their poop in order. Drive home in snow storm.
Monday: lose power and internet from storm
Tuesday: still no power or internet
