has said that he doesn't think it's possible for a artist to actually shock audiences in the 21st century anymore.
Which is an interesting take for somebody who IS a shockrock artist (and a really good one I've loved listening to for over 30 years now).

But I think he's wrong. Somewhere out there, somebody is coming up with the next idea that will make conservatives buy albums so they can burn them in protest.

Satirical heavy metal band GWAR release “Scumdogs of the Universe”. It’s their second album and has a more refined metal sound. 

GWAR is better live, with their elaborate, grotesque costumes and blood-soaked, controversy-baiting live performances.

Scumdogs details various perverse exploits by the group--such as in the song "Slaughterama," about a gameshow in which they're killing nazi skinheads.
