Bah! Knocked one of the speaker boxes off my standing desk while measuring for new woofers. Shattered the veneer that fits over the back panel, unfortunately it’s on top of the box. The woofers are shot to shit, these are from ‘99 and the manufacturer used custom woofers soooo I can’t get replacements. I’d re-cone but there aren’t any direct replacement kits and I really don’t want to destroy one by accident and be unable to replace it. Also, all the glue is dry-rotted on the surround and spider anyway.

I could just buy 2 new sets but, whatever someone else can do cheaply, I can do for 4 times the cost and 8 times the hours. Also this keeps my brain engaged on something.

So we’re going to make a new matching set cause I do like the clean look of these and I need 4 of them in the end. Gonna get some hours in on the after I finish the . Need to figure out the best way to do the veneer as it looks like it has a back relief to make the corner. Build custom fixturing, break tools, mess up some wood, mess up *a lot* of wood.

So first we have to look at the original speakers and work backwards. Then work forwards and tweak the box design for new speaker elements. Design a crossover. Buy parts. Finish drawings, post tool-paths, fixture parts for milling, veneer, finishing, assemble, and testing.

I’ll keep this thread going for any project updates.
