Spencerian Standard Hand and Brandt's Duployan

As a young citizen of the internet, I kept up with friends over IRC.

Often, due to the fact that I was on dialup, or there was a netsplit, I’d disconnect from the channel, then rejoin. Someone would write 'wb Matt’.

Since I didn't want to ask, I assumed it meant 'write back’, and I’d reply ‘ok.... <something random>’, like a weirdo.

Years later it dawned on me that it was 'welcome back’. The realization aged me 5 years in an instant, I'm sure.

I'm trying to learn Gregg #shorthand in my (limited) free time for reasons still unclear to me. I guess it's kinda relaxing and I like being able to write privately (and quickly).

However the book I'm using is a textbook from the 50s aimed at secretaries and other business professionals. All the practice phrases are about placing orders for sheets of paper and ensuring that you buy them at a fair price.

I’ve heard from more than a handful of folks that it took them multiple failed attempts to learn #Haskell until something clicked and they “got it”. I came to Haskell through ML, so I didn’t face those challenges. But I had a similar experience learning #Gregg #shorthand in my early teens.

Die Geschichte der #Stenographie überhaupt spannend, egal – könnt ihr selber lesen.

Aber ich habe schnell mitbekommen, dass die #DEK zwar in der #Schweiz (teils?), #Österreich und #Deutschland #Standard ist, aber gewisse Nachteile aufweist: Sehr komplizierte Regeln und Verstärkungsschreibelemente, die aus Federkielzeiten herrühren und mit modernen Kulis quasi unmöglich sind auszuführen (an der Stelle sei erwähnt, dass ich #Kuli schreiben hasse und noch immer Team #Füller bin).
Aber man stolpert früh über die #Stiefografie / #Stiefographie auch #RationelleStenografie genannt. Sehr einfache Regeln ohne Ausnahmen, gilt als schnell zu erlernen. Ok? Denn man tau.

Auf der Redditseite zu #Shorthand sind zig PDFs zum #Selbstlernen verlinkt, für ballerviele Sprachens (#legal, denke ich!). Auch zur deutschen #Stiefo. Also gezogen das Ding und jeden Abend trotz Vollzeitmaloche und so Stiefo geübt, auch am WE. Vorher natürlich ein Stenolinienheft organisiert.
Das war vor ca. 3 Wochen (?). Gestern habe ich das Grundbuch durchgearbeitet und kann nun Stiefo normal alles schreiben. Kürzel und so wären dann die Aufbaustufen. Natürlich muss man das weiterüben, damit man das nicht verlernt, aber was ich sagen möchte ist:
