In late 2022 a new land mammal was found in Great Britain, the White-toothed shrew. No-one is sure how it got here, but they are an established and damaging invasive in Ireland so finding out more about their range in GB is vital.
The UK Mammal Society has set up Searching For Shrews to monitor and find out more about this species:

The story of how it was found is here -https://www.mammal.org.uk/2022/10/the-naming-of-the-shrew-greater-white-toothed-shrew-now-discovered-in-britain/

A well-fed shrew (probably Sorex dispar) that I spooked out of an experimental beehive in 2019. The shrew came and went through the half-inch mesh on the bottom entrance like it wasn't there. Half-inch = 1.3cm. A dime = 1.8cm.
I'd love do some (harmless) testing with #shrews in a lab so I could see with my own eyes (and cameras) exactly what kind of opening they can squeeze through.
