Sent an email to Ydanis Rodriquez DOT-611542-C3W8 There needs to be wider sidewalks so that outdoor seating can happen all year long. Some areas have really wide sidewalks and others don't. We don't need parking but a few seem to think we do. Therefore let the sidewalks be widened at least half a driving lane. A driving lane will be lost but that doesn't matter.

Some #UrbanGardens I've come across recently, that I wanted to highlight on #SilentSunday. Gardens like this provide food for #pollinators and make #UrbanSpace more tranquil. Obviously, it needs to be done the right way (without bee-harming pesticides, with good soil and untreated seeds), but imagine if we had these in the space between #roads and #sidewalks instead of #grass?

The street I live on doesn't have continuous #sidewalks (because #Vancouver can't afford nice things), it has #FreeParking on both sides, there's enough space for one car to pass and a bit of extra room. Similar to the picture.

People walk on the road. Some drivers slow down when passing, but most maintain the speed.

It's terrifying. I got used to it when biking, but sharing the road with vehicles when #walking is a whole new thing. What should I do, tAkE tHe LanE? Ridiculous.

Can we afford wide, #accessible #sidewalks along every #street? Yep.
Can we afford to buy every household an #EBike? Yep.

But instead we choose to subsidize #driving, and treat everything else as an expensive, frivolous amenity.
