That's what motivated the #FOSSDLE initiative (see https://fossdle.org - note, it's still a work in progress, but, like all FOSS, we 'release early and often'. 😉 ).

Politics aside, this bright orange cartridge will turn your #Commodore64 into a polyphonic mono #Synthesizer (stereo, if two #SIDs are installed) that will either run with a screen attached but can also be used headless, e.g. for on-stage performances.
A midi enabled version of the "CynthCart 64" firmware is also included in the firmware image of the "Kerberos C64/C128 MIDI" interface cartridge (which, unfortunately, I couldn't get my hands on).
Looking forward to squeak and buzz and humm around the weekend, checking out this amazing new addition to my ever growing cartridge collection.
