The Silence Dogood letters in the National Treasure movie are real.

Mrs. Silence Dogood was the pen name used by Benjamin Franklin, first used when he was a teenager, to get his work published in the New-England Courant.

The Courant was a newspaper founded and published by Franklin's brother James.
