Good point: rather than speak truth to power, it's safer and more lucrative to flatter power and to say the things that power wants to be said.

I did understand that you were specifically talking about Covid and climate change. I was generalizing that to things in general that cause pain if acknowledged.

Goleman's book does, I think, offer good insights into the dynamic.
