@missy_lynn Girl! That’s a thing. I think it’s called a #SilentBookClub and I totally want to join one! My friends are too cool tho 🫤
Around the world, the resilient readers of @silentbookclub chapters are emerging from the pandemic in different ways: https://silentbookclub.substack.com/p/welcome-back-readers #SilentBookClub
Our #SilentBookClub group enjoyed two very different meetings this month. One was devoted to discussing a book-related topic instead of specific books. This month, we took on the subject of rereading.
The other meeting was devoted to our usual go-round to all readers assembled, to hear what they had recently and were currently reading, what delighted them, what challenged them ... and more.
Here's our report: http://bookgagabooks.ca/2023/01/29/the-many-ways-books-nourish-us/
@JohnPicacio In our #SilentBookClub group, everyone brings to the table (literally or virtually) books and authors that others in the group might not have heard of. I just heard for the first time at our most recent meeting about Greg Bear - sounds like he was very respected and had a formidable body of work.

(Did you know that the Silent Book Club founders have joined Mastodon? They're here at @silentbookclub)
@la_marteau @bookstodon Totally agree. When my avid reader mother-in-law went blind late in life, she turned to audiobooks - and I would still very much characterize her as an avid reader. The format, by necessity, just had to change.
This is also the consensus of our #SilentBookClub group, who often distinguish between "books I read with my eyes" versus "books I read with my ears" when giving their updates. This is reflected in our group reading lists - for example: http://bookgagabooks.ca/2022/11/27/books-booklovers-and-the-delicious-questions-they-pose/
@eg_marro Oh, thank you kindly - I'm so glad my blog caught your eye. And oh my yes, I could go on and on about how much I love our #SilentBookClub group, which celebrated its 5tb anniversary this fall. It such a great concept, so inclusive and encouraging and collegial - and even going virtual during the pandemic, we kept up vital connections as readers and friends. Let me know if you need to know more!
@eg_marro I'll be giving my year in reading a good ponder between Christmas and New Year's, on my own and with our wonderful #SilentBookClub group, which will meet for the last time in 2022 on December 31st. I'll take a look at your reflections as part of my pondering, for sure!
@derekerb ... and I think those recommendations are imbued with even more trust and credibility when they come from a #SilentBookClub friend!
@robinkirk This exquisite book was one of the highlights of my reading year. I know a lot of people in our #SilentBookClub group would agree.
@mahmud_writer Oh, that would be great! I publish combined reading lists from all of our #SilentBookClub meetings on my blog at http://www.bookgaga.ca, and add links to more info. It's a bit of work, but it's rewarding and gratifying to feel that you're giving each book a bit more visibility.
Time spent with our #SilentBookClub group at idyllic book haven Great Escape Bookstore (http://www.greatescapebookstore.com/) in east end Toronto was a major highlight of the year in reading: http://bookgagabooks.ca/2022/09/14/organized-or-spontaneous-reading-or-organizing-the-spontaneity-of-our-reading-its-all-good/

@tiamat271 You're very welcome. As you can perhaps tell, I love our #SilentBookClub and the other groups I've had the pleasure of attending. The books and people you meet through them are amazing!
@tiamat271 I'm delighted that the #SilentBookClub concept has piqued your interest? Did you find the main Silent Book Club web site at http://www.silentbook.club? They list over 300 clubs worldwide ... so many there are some near where you live. If you're interested, I've written a lot about our group, which celebrated its 5th anniversary recently, on my blog at http://www.bookgaga.ca. So hoping you get to enjoy this wonderful bookish experience soon!
@bookgaga this post intrigued me and prompted me to find out what a #SilentBookClub. I had not heard of it before, but it sounds lovely and I’m going to float the idea to my friends and family. Thank you for sharing!
Hi @derekerb! At tonight's #silentbookclub meeting, one of our readers was praising your recommendation of Murder at the Porte de Versailles by Cara Black. Thank you again! Hope all is well.
