To this article, dealing in part with #despair, I note the power of youth, which is innately drawn to #Solidarity and can easily understand #Sustainability and recognize #hypocrisy; yet their brains are not physically capable of understanding a 50 year experience in watching, or participating, as Rachel Carson's #SilentSpring (1962) pollution alarm has been ground into todays derivative #CrisesOfCapitalism.
Despair correlates positively with Time.

@StillIRise1963 #MercyMercyMe (#TheEcology) played for me on shuffle today and it hit me how OLD the song is and that, as you note, we've known for a very long time that we're creating the tools of our own now imminent deaths.

#SilentSpring came out of the indiscriminate over-application of #DDT (mixed with kerosene) as part of government attempts at fire-ant eradication (also anti-mosquito and anti-spongy-moth programs). It included aerial spraying on private land and in densely populated areas when the landowners didn't want the spraying to happen (c.f. Murphy v. Butler, 1960).

That's just fundamentally a different problem from someone using Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis on their tomatoes.

#OTD The #Boston Herald published "Evidence of Havoc by #DDT" by #Duxbury #Journalist, & #Naturalist: Olga Owens Huckins.

The Huckins' land was "where #Songbirds sang, #Ducks swam, & #GreatBlueHerons nested" until #Massachusetts #Mosquito Control sprayed DDT.

Olga wrote,
"[They] killed 7 lovely #Songbirds outright... 3 the next morning... [The birds] trusted us & [nested here] year after year."

Olga also appealed to her old friend Rachel Carson who wrote #SilentSpring.

Publié en 1962, très bien reçu par le public qui en fit un succès de librairie, mais irritant l'industrie chimique qui traita "Miss Carson d'hystérique et de sentimentaliste". Les habituels arguments pour disqualifier les femmes.
