My favourite video connector, aside from SCART, is 13w3. It's a gorgeous mashup of a DB25 footprint mixed with VGA and coax all in the same connector.

My point is that entire racks full of interconnected cages full of storage, accelerators, NICs, etc. is quite common in #HPC, and #SGI basically made HPC solutions for CAD & VFX...
Without #SiliconGraphics machines there would be neither #Autodesk nor @blender@video.blender.org / @Blender@mastodon.social / #Blender...
Or at least not at that time...
OFC nowadays #PCIe is far more faster and efficient...
Tho I'm still jealous of "guaranteed rate I/O" on #XFS with select SGI system builds...

It took some searching, but I finally found these old SGI Indy and Indigo2 brochures online. They sent me physical copies when I was a kid, and they were gorgeous. Spent so much time looking at them.
Sadly I somehow lost the originals over the years. Took some searching but found scans on Higher Intellect vintage computing wiki.

The render speed with Maya 4.5 IPR renderer at 640x480 is about 2 minutes. Quite good speed consider my O2 only have R5200 300Mhz CPU.

Playing with Barco Creator (a software like Photoshop) on my #SGI O2 with Wacom Intuos 1 tablet. Quite good brush engine for early drawing software.
Would try to do some drawing with this in future :3
Also, if you install Wacom tablet driver after install Barco Creator, it will crash on launch.
Re-install Barco Creator after install Wacom tablet driver would fix the crash issue.

For some reason the video capture card on the SGI O2 struggles with s-video and composite from the Nintendo 64.
Sometimes it worked, but sync was broken. I never did quite figure out what the issue was.

This weekend, I brought the old #SiliconGraphics #Indy back to life. Added a 200 GB SSD connected through an ACARD SCSI-to-SATA bridge... and some splashes of color while at it… 🦄
