so I read on tv tropes once that a lot of people like portraying him as awkward, having no social skills, and being the butt of jokes, even though it doesn't exactly match up with canon.
my own version of this is that he's usually paying more attention to what other people are doing, how they're acting, and their mannerisms. I imagine he thinks a lot about things outside himself in general as a result of his powers. kinesthetic I believe the word is? I might be wrong. anyway, he pays a lot of attention to things and people and how they move and act, and not really how he is acting. and he's pretty aloof himself, it doesn't always occur to him that he is acting "weird". part of his naivete. he's very blunt and honest, wears his heart on his sleeve. says what he feels, has no filter, and acts in whatever way is comfortable at the moment.
so he doesn't pick up on social cues or practical jokes that well. Like in Team Sonic Racing, he took the smack talk literally.
