I did a bit more experimentation with the #Sinclair #TV80 pocket #CRT TV over lunch and managed to get a stable video signal from ONE VHS tape.
I wonder if I'm maybe falling foul of #Macrovision copy protection?
the other tapes I tried the audio came through fine, but the video is suffering from horizontal and vertical scrolling, but with this one tape I get a clear picture but hissy audio.
Could be wifi or electricals interfering, or maybe I need to try something other than VHS.

I managed to get a bit of signal from my #VCR into the #Sinclair #TV1 / #TV80 portable TV...but not a very stable one.
VCR menus came through nice and clear, but as soon as the #video started playing I got both horizontal and vertical scrolling that I couldn't seem to tune out.
Just wrapping a coax cable around the aerial for now which seems to work for others. Might need to try stripping the cable or something. Any tips, @avavsystems?
The yellow and dark bands are just camera artefacts.

This little cable has transported electrons for the last time. Wonder if I can find any good replacement that doesn’t cost a fortune with shipping 🤨

I really need to stop going into that #vintage shop...
Just bought an almost totally useless #Sinclair portable black and white #CRT #TV from 1983!
The #TV80 is noteworthy for using a side mounted electron gun to give a fairly flat and thin CRT!
No video inputs, but a quick look online and it seems there are ways to force a signal in there either by modding or wrapping an RF cable around the aerial...so sounds like I've got myself another project.
It even comes with the (dead) battery!

#Brawley, #ImperialValley. In #FarmSecurityAdministrationFSA) migratory labor camp. Family of mother, father and eleven children, originally from near Mangrum, #Oklahoma, where he had been tenant farmer. Came to #California in 1936 after the drought. Since then has been traveling from crop to crop in #California, following the harvest. Six of the eleven children attend school wherever the family stops long enough. Five older children work along with the father and mother. February 23, two of the family have been lucky and "got a place" a day's work) in the peas on the #Sinclair ranch. Father had earned about one dollar and seventy-three cents for ten-hour day. Oldest daughter had earned one dollar and twenty-five cents. Form these earnings had to provide their transportation to the fields #twentymiles away. Mother wants to return to #Oklahoma, father unwilling. She says, "I want to go back to where we can live happym live decent, and grow what we eat." He says, "We can't go the way I am now. We've got nothing in the world to farm with. I made my mistake when I came out here."

Just reading through this license doc about the #ZXSpectrum ROMs.
If you've never read it before, it's a conversation between Cliff Lawson of #Amstrad and Andrew Owen, where Cliff states Amstrad's position on what was formerly #Sinclair's intellectual property regarding the #Speccy.
I'd love to see something similar with #Psion. Officially allowed to distribute documentation, OS ROMs, code (decompiled or otherwise), etc.

I tidningen Your #Spectrum (senare Your #Sinclair) studerade Dave Nicholls aktuella spel mycket närgånget. Han tog sig in i själva maskinkoden och analyserade den. Många analyser resulterade i POKEs för oändligt med liv etc. Här beskriver han en del fynd. Flera av spelen var alltså de hetaste för dagen, som klättrade på listorna och var omskrivna.
The annual Crap Games Competition has been bringing Spectrum fans together for more than 25 years. It all began with an April fool’s joke in a magazine called Your Sinclair … https://www.theguardian.com/games/2023/jul/06/people-competing-to-make-the-worst-computer-games-possible #sinclair #zxspectrum #retrocomputing

Reading this old interview with Sir Clive #Sinclair had some surprises, but coupled with what I read of Tony Tebby's history of the QL, I guess it all makes sense.
It looks like Sinclair's project that eventually came out as the Z88 has its roots in the 1970s, it was the personal computer he felt the world needed, and the ZX series were steps towards it.
But as Sinclair Research became a major computer maker, it became more difficult to create the computer Sir Clive wanted because the way the market was going and the knock on effects that had with the business. So he was actually relieved to sell the Spectrum/ZX8x/QL business to Alan Sugar.
I have to admit, I still can't see why he thought what he did about rechargable batteries. Maybe he imagined the charger being outside of the device, requiring people keep taking the batteries out? I know rechargable devices were rare in the 1980s, but buying batteries for your AIWA Walkman-clone was a PITA. I'm convinced his flat screen TV, the TV-80, would have been a moderate success if he'd made it to run off rechargeables.

With all this talk of # 6 & #BorisEpshteyn, I hope #Sinclair is getting investigated. They purposely brought #Trump's propaganda's agent into the homes of millions of people via their local news. It wasn't about news. It was about spreading propaganda #USPol
Epshteyn started laying the framework of stolen elections in 2016 by claiming Obama won North Carolina due to illegal voting in 2008
Sinclair knows what they are. Did they take part? If so, divest Sinclair

Oh, very interesting.
The creators of what is thought to be the first personal computer virus started out a #Sinclair #ZX80 repairers in Pakistan.
The virus was actually a copy protection mechanism for some PC software they wrote for a Doctor Friend.
