Here's an example: Bhāskara (Mahabhaskariya of Bhaskara) was a 7th-century Indian mathematician and astronomer who, among other things, was the first to write numbers in the Hindu decimal system with a circle [1]. He is also known for his accurate approximation of the sine function [2].
Bhāskara's sine approximation, shown in the image, dates to approximately 1,400 years ago and amazingly has a relative error of less than 1.9%.
