The smooth-coated otter Lutrogale perspicillata is one of 13 extant species of otter (Sub-family: Lutrinae) in the world. Distributed throughout South Asia and Southeast Asia, its range is continuous from Indonesia up to Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, southern China and India, with an isolated population in Iraq.

Goedemorgen Mastodonians. We went hiking this morning to check out the flora and fauna of MacRitchie Reservoir.

MacRitchie Reservoir is Singapore's oldest reservoir. The reservoir was completed in 1868 by impounding water from an earth embankment, and was then known as the Impounding Reservoir or Thomson Reservoir.

The Smooth-coated otter is listed as 'Critically Endangered' in the Red List of threatened animals of Singapore.

The 20-pound creatures have also adapted well to urban spaces.
