@Andy_European At the very least, Starmer could make it clear that the UK will follow EU regulations in terms of trade. This will help UK businesses. He could and should go further and state that joining the Single Market is a policy for the future. Many Leavers with property in the EU or who planned to retire to the EU now understand that freedom of movement of people is one of the freedoms they've lost via Brexit, and want to get back. #Singlemarket #EU #Starmer #Leavers

2️⃣ Corporate interests trigger the EU Commission into initiating investigations, which can evolve into infringement procedures, which deal with potential breaches of Single Market legislation. The EU Commission not only welcomes, but sometimes even solicits these complaints.

@kennykravitz @redflag @ChrisMayLA6 Surely by now, with the Tories visibly imploding and Sunak still too weak, Starmer can actually mention that the hard Brexit we have is dragging the UK down economically, and give a reasonably quick and easy solution. Which is to join the Single Market, staying outside the EU. Thanks to glimmers of common sense, the UK still retains most of EU law/regulations. The really rabid Brexiters have had their day.

#China's major entrant to the #electricvehicles sector, on considering where to build its major #european car plant, didn't even have the UK in its top ten options... as they put it:

'The UK doesn’t have a very good solution... Even on the long list we didn’t have the UK'.

Hold, on surely #takingbackcontrol was meant to ensure we could welcome such major investments....

Oh, hold on; did they need access to the #singlemarket, do you think?

So the #LabourParty wants (rightly) to do something about the #investment crisis in UK #industry & #manufacturing;

while investment growth has largely stagnated in the UK, across the channel it continues (investment in France has grown by around 25% since #brexit)

When you look at the chart below, what you can see is that fiddling with corporation taxes or even how investment returns are taxed (or allowances play out) is not the issue...

re-engaging with the #singlemarket is job No.1!
