Sinkyone Wilderness, when backpacking, on more than one occasion, I've woken to find the female herd of elk bedded down surrounding my tent.
In summer I've also had solitary bull elk with enormous antlers, sleep at the edge of my campsite. It seems they do this deliberately. I also find it comforting when solo backpacking.

Sinkyone wilderness, the southern, wilder, lesser hiked portion of the lost coast trail. Solo hike testing out my new tarptent notch. It weighs about 1 1/2 lbs, sets up with hiking poles.

Searching for a Mastodon, #backpacking, #hiking instance
There must be one.
From a solo backpacking trip in the Sinkyone Wilderness. First time setting up my ultralight Tarptent Notch 1 person tent. Sets up with two hiking poles and 4 stakes. I love it! Door with vestibule on both sides.

Im looking for any Mastodon instance related to #tracking, in the old fashioned sense of the word, on the ground, in the real world, following the doings of our mysterious neighbors who we mostly get to know through the tracks and signs they leave.

The small female black bear has been my neighbor for quite a few years. She passes by my cabin every few weeks, during certain times of year, on the route she walks around her territory. She's polite, and never causes trouble. This year she has two cubs.
The bear track photo is from a different bear. The photo of numerous tracks are sea otter
