It's a complicated thing, Americans didn't want to get involved in Syria, especially after the disaster of the Libyan intervention. If Clinton or John McCain had their way, I can't say that would have been 'better' I advocate complete US withdrawal.

Look at what happened in #Egypt also, the Muslim Brotherhood came to power after the Arab Spring and #Obama helped put #Sisi in power in a coup.

Of course I'm no fan of MB but either you believe in democracy or you don't. Arab democracy will have islamists, that's just the reality. Obama admin didn't want to deal with that.

So imo It's not just that they feared a "power vacuum" they fear Sunni Arabs who are not on their payroll, whether they are Salafist or not because this will cause problems with Israel.
