The #RussianWilderness. It's not very big, but packs a punch. I hadn't been and found my way from the south via the #PacificCrestTrail. For my 1st day of 3 #backpacking, one of the jewels of the area: Russian Lake.

There's still scattered burn and surreal twice burned areas on the third day backpacking, but there's also unburned and healthy after the burn areas. My plans had to morph a little and I got in tagging a peak right at the end!

Yesterday #NevadaCounty sent a Type-3 Engine #StrikeTeam to the #HeadFire in #SiskiyouCounty. Before units arrived at the Head Fire they were diverted to the #ScottFire in the #FortJones area for immediate need structure protection in a remote area of the wilderness

Via CalTrans District 2: 🔴 UPDATE 8/17/2023 @ 7 A.M.: State Route 96 remains CLOSED from the Seiad Creek Bridge to 6.7 miles east of Scott River Road due to the #HeadFire burning in #SiskiyouCounty. There is no estimated time on when the roadway will reopen.

8.18 miles from Seiad Valley at its closest point There are active thunderstorms in the vicinity and cameras have shown increasing fire activity. All evacuation warnings and orders remain in place. Morning update from Klamath National Forest: Firefighters were engaged in point protection during the night on the Head Fire, working to protect homes in the Steelhead area, Scott River Road, and the Highway 96 corridor. The fire was flown last night and was 2,705 acres at that time.

Watch Duty: "Air Attack reporting the fire is running up to the ridge w/extreme fire behavior and no current opportunities to catch it. He concurs that evacuation orders are urgent & priority should be getting people out of there. He is also seeing additional spot fires down river.""
