"As the #SiteC dam nears completion; construction of the most expensive hydroelectric project in #Canadian history has involved tearing down old-growth forests. What’s more, Site C will destroy the habitat of more than 100 species vulnerable to extinction." It will displace #Indigenous nations and flood fertile lands that could feed a million .https://thenarwhal.ca/topics/site-c-dam-bc/

On the unbearable grief of those who live near the #SiteC dam construction site, as ancient ecologies are clearcut in preparation to flood the 100km long, completely unique valley for a dam BC never needed. All corporate graft. I don't usually dwell on the feelings side of fighting these corrupt projects but it's just too intolerable right now. Every message I get from stricken neighbours to this mess just guts me.
So disgusting of the #BCNDP to let a public utility do so much destruction. https://thenarwhal.ca/bc-hydro-site-c-lawsuit/

@DawnRoseTurner @CCPA_BC The #SiteC dam debacle makes my blood boil. The lies the #bcndp told to get elected then once elected sold their souls to the LNG industry and made Treaty 8 territory a sacrifice zone in service to #fossilfuels, #fracking, #water depletion, #ecosystem destruction, displacement and flooding of West Moberly #FirstNation's homelands and sacred sites, #food to feed a million, and a whole bunch of negative, negative impacts to those of us downstream......GRRRRR

This is BC govt PR on behalf of Big Hydro (think SNC-Lavalin). BC has a MASSIVE surplus of hydroelectricity, so much it has trouble getting rid of it & #SiteC will make that worse. We produce 70 TERAWATTS & can only use 50. PS Manitoba govt is using exact same wording. #bcpoli https://twitter.com/richardzussman/status/1605641440356630528

Cost of #SiteC power would be right up there with nuclear if it were added to the chart. It's a project that enriches a few corporations but it is the highest cost way of adding electricity to the provincial grid.

"In the eyes of Nemaska Cree, the federal government, Hydro-Québec and the province of #Quebec all rode roughshod over their rights and wishes and displaced them from their homeland." Destructive #megadams like #MuskratFalls, #Keeyask, #SiteC continue to be built in #Canada with the same effect. #cdnpoli #Indigenous https://www.cbc.ca/newsinteractives/features/nemaska-cree-relocation/

The war on #Indigenous nations in #Canada takes many forms. #Megadams like this one are still being built and still displacing communities and homelands. The #SiteC dam in #BritishColumbia is the latest one. https://thetyee.ca/News/2022/11/07/Devastation-Nechako-Reservoir/

@gemlog Might have been worth doing at $8B. Probably not at $16B, and who knows if that will be the final cost? As I understand the article, they've already spent $6B, but those are sunk costs; but the article doesn't say anything about how much it would cost (in damages, for instance) if they shut it down now.
