Currently listening to Rodriguez's seminal album, Cold Fact. Re-released by Light in the Attic nearly 40 years after the fact, it's brilliance was finally recognized (outside of South Africa).

Sixto Rodriguez, the singer-songwriter behind "Sugar Man," has died at age 81. He recorded two albums — 1970's "Cold Fact" and 1971's "Coming to Reality" — neither of which sold well in the U.S., leading to his premature retirement from music. Unbeknownst to him, his songs became anti-apartheid anthems in South Africa and he later found fame at home.
