My makeshift vertical mast has now been re-assembled after it came apart during an #SKCC contest earlier this month. Had I been thinking ahead, I would have set it right before Field Day, but oh well. Tonight we’ll see how everything works for the monthly two-hour sprint. Even if it does well, the pieces are definitely showing lots of wear, and I need to get a replacement soon. Recommendations welcome. #HamRadio

After sorting through some antenna issues and trying three different units in some different configurations, I'ghe concluded that the HF bands today are just dead. Hoping they improve before the rain arrives so I can make a decent showing for #Indiana in this month's #SKCC #HamRadio event. Owf not, oh well; can't say I didn't try.

First off, quit kicking yourself. We've all got to start somewhere.
Secondly, practice makes perfect. The more you send, the more you copy, the better you will be at it.
Thirdly, If you didn't need CW to pass the test, you've got an excuse, and those of us who did need CW to pass our tests and get our licenses need to STFU with any criticism about it. I've worked quite a few people who derided me for being a "slow code" Extra (I only needed 5WPM to get my General, and no further CW for Extra), and I had to QRS during those contacts so they could keep up... and I use a straight key.
Fourth, I'd be more than happy to work you, and it'd be easier if you were a member of the #SKCC (www.skccgroup.com) and you logged in to the "sked page" (basically a webchat we use to find each other and share frequencies to try to work each other).
Fifth, and finally, thanks for sharing your story. One way to improve your sending is to record yourself and try to copy your own fist. That's how I learned to send clean code.

Since Christmas I have been having great fun on the air using my new Phil Boyle straight key.

January is the #SKCC activity month and I am pleased to have achieved the SKCC 'Centurion' award level for QSOs with 100 other SKCC members only using mechanical morse keys.

In my log for the award I have 21 DXCC entities, with notable contacts including ZL, VK(x2), JA, KL7 & KP4. All using just 100w into a simple wire antenna. CW is in great shape - time to get on the air! #morsecode

I will be active for #skcc Straight Key Month as K3Y/KL7 1900-2100z today and 0000-0200Z Sunday. Will adapt frequency per conditions, likely 17-10m during 1900z block and 15-40m at 0000z.

Just had five short SKCC QSOs on 20M with three of the other ops having the name Bill.

I need to get some more coffee.

Straight key diary project update.
Jan 3rd 99/100 but I have a dilemma! I'm thinking I should carry on and just order another 100 qsl cards , I'm still waiting for the first 100 cards to arrive, I will pass my initial target today, do you think I should carry on? Or just end it at 100?
